Found a sidewall crack, think I need a new tire. My brain won’t allow me to be one of those people who drives around with mismatched tires. BFGoodrich has discontinued mine, n obody has them left in my size, and the replacement model doesn’t have the same tread pattern. Fack. I don’t have the c ash to replace all four and they’re barely halfway through thei r useful life anyways.

As long as they’re similar sidewalls, it’ll hardly be noticeable. Right now I have Pilot Sport AS3s on the back of the Lexus and Sumitomos on the front. Once the Sumis wear out, I’ll just get a couple more AS3s.

Start checking out used tire places?

How old are your tires? That stinks.
Uh, my Golf has three Goodyear Assurances on it and one Fuzio
n (chinese) tire after I got a flat in winter. I’ll do something about that... eventually...

Oh. So what’s the concern if you throw one mismatched pair upfront and two matched one in the back in the meantime?

This exact scenario happened to me when I got out my summer tires for the GTI. Oh well only money. It does ride much quieter now.

Because I will be constantly awar e of the fact that they are not matched and it will drive me insane

Grab some Cooper Zeon RS3-G1's. Cheap ultra performance tires that haven’t given me a reason to hate them yet after 3k in both dry and stormy wet. They cost me $400.

Solution: Put the new tires on the front. Peel out at every intersection (assuming this is RWD) and mentally re contextualize them as “drift tires”.

What car (make/model/trim)?
What driving style?
What environmental conditions do you encounter (including weather)
?
